Communities are often at the receiving end of many growing challenges affecting quality of life and yet, they have influential power to shape the future it’s member’s desire. Communities with strong social bonds and connection are not only happier but more resilient, safer, and better equipped to handle challenges.

This afternoon event takes you on the Braeside community journey to build climate resilience into our story. Features include:

  • An interactive presentation exploring the meaning of community resilience with the audience and showcasing initiatives in the social, natural and built spaces.
  • A panel of community leads and partners will be on hand to take you through a display of plans, activities and models in a collaborative discussion about what’s possible.
  • A guided walking tour of our ecosystem sanctuary, designed to be a calming nature space for residents to gather, engage and learn about resilience practices they can adopt.

Event Schedule:

1:00 PM: Welcome from Braeside President, Jenny Mae Smith

1:10 PM:  Interactive presentation exploring the meaning of community resilience and climate initiatives in the social, natural and built spaces. Jenny Mae Smith, Jim Jenkins

2:10 PM: Refreshment Break

2:30 PM:  Panel discussion and audience questions on community resilience direction, support and concerns. Philip Vandermey (Spectacle), Pooja Shrestha (Federation Calgary Communities), Jenny Mae Smith (Braeside President and Moderator), Jim Jenkins (Braeside Director)

3:10 PM: Display tables and rotating ecosanctuary tours
